Abstract

Health inequities between China's urban and rural children persist despite China's continued economic development and its official adoption of human and children's rights doctrines. Progressive insurance systems implemented in the 2000s were developed specifically to reduce existing inequities by systematically increasing coverage and access to quality, affordable care. Analyses evaluated the role of health insurance in promoting health equity among Chinese children. Results indicate public health insurance alone does not adequately address current health disparities.
